Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to propose an improved method which can shorten the calculation time and improve the calculation efficiency under the premise of ensuring the calculation accuracy for calculating the response of dynamic systems with periodic time-varying characteristics.

Design/methodology/approach

An improved method is proposed based on Runge–Kutta method according to the composition characteristics of the state space matrix and the external load vector formed by the reduction of the dynamic equation of the periodic time-varying system. The recursive scheme of the holistic matrix of the system using the Runge–Kutta method is improved to be the sub-block matrix that is divided into the upper and lower parts to reduce the calculation steps and the occupied computer memory.

Findings

The calculation time consumption is reduced to a certain extent about 10–35% by changing the synthesis method of the time-varying matrix of the dynamics system, and the method proposed of paper consumes 43–75% less calculation time in total than the original Runge–Kutta method without affecting the calculation accuracy. When the ode45 command that implements the Runge–Kutta method in the MATLAB software used to solve the system dynamics equation include the time variable which cannot provide its specific analytic function form, so the time variable value corresponding to the solution time needs to be determined by the interpolation method, which causes the calculation efficiency of the ode45 command to be substantially reduced.

Originality/value

The proposed method can be applied to solve dynamic systems with periodic time-varying characteristics, and can consume less calculation time than the original Runge–Kutta method without affecting the calculation accuracy, especially the superiority of the improved method of this paper can be better demonstrated when the degree of freedom of the periodic time-varying dynamics system is greater.

Abstract

Purpose

In order to use the BS EN 15058-3 principle more scientifically to design the welding structure of rail vehicles, a method of stress state assessment of welding joints meeting the requirements of BS EN 15058-3 is proposed by using IIW-2008 and ASME-BPVC-VIII-2:2015 standard.

Design/methodology/approach

The stress state evaluation process of two standards is studied, and the stress state evaluation method of two standards is programmed by computer language. Among them, ASME standard can evaluate the stress state of welding structures without defects and with defects. In order to verify the feasibility of the method, under the fatigue load of en13749 standard, the method is applied to the welding structure design of the rail car frame.

Findings

The results show that the evaluation based on IIW-2008 standard is stricter, and the stress factor of the weld between the crossbeam and the traction pull rod seat is the largest, the value is 0.881, and the stress state grade is medium. With the increase of the number of defects, the stress level of the welded joint increases and the fatigue life decreases.

Originality/value

This study can provide a reference for the welding design of rail vehicles and other complex structures and has a certain engineering guiding significance.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the relationship between leakage flux coefficient and the coreless axial magnetic field permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG) size and obtain the expressions of leakage flux coefficient.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, a magnetic circuit model of coreless AFPMSG is proposed. Four kinds of leakage permeances of permanent magnet (PM) are considered, and the expression of no-load leakage flux coefficient is obtained. Solving the integral region of leakage permeances by generator size, which improves the accuracy of the solution.

Findings

Finite element method and magnetic circuit method are used to obtain the no-load leakage flux coefficient and its variation trend charts with the change of pole arc coefficient, air gap length and PM thickness. The average errors of the two methods are 2.835%, 0.84% and 1.347%, respectively. At the same time, the results of single-phase electromotive force obtained by magnetic circuit method, three dimensional finite element method and prototype experiments are 19.36 V, 18.82 V and 19.09 V, respectively. The results show that the magnetic circuit method is correct in calculating the no-load leakage flux coefficient.

Originality/value

The special structure of the coreless AFPMSG is considered in the presented equivalent magnetic circuit and equations, and the equations in this paper can be applied for leakage flux evaluating purposes and initial parameter selection of the coreless AFPMSG.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to analyze the moderating effect of managerial discretion on the relationship between cross-border knowledge search and the high-tech firms’ innovation quality in a global health emergency and addresses the following issues: the influence mechanism of different types of cross-border knowledge search on the high-tech firms’ innovation quality in a global health emergency; and the moderating role of different dimensions of manager discretion on the above relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the firms’ strategy selection methods, the authors divided cross-border knowledge search into three aspects, namely, breadth, depth and balance, and analyzed the impact of cross-border knowledge search on the innovation quality of high-tech firms in a global health emergency, taking managerial discretion as the moderating variable, and divided it into position rights, pay rights and operation rights according to the key rights of firms’ strategic management. Furthermore, the authors constructed a theoretical model, and for an analysis sample, the authors collected data from Chinese high-tech firms from 2013 to 2021.

Findings

The empirical results show that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between cross-border knowledge search breadth, depth and balance and the innovation quality of high-tech firms. The position rights, pay rights and operation rights of managerial discretion have partially significant moderating effects on the relationship between cross-border knowledge search breadth, depth and balance and the high-tech firms’ innovation quality.

Originality/value

Considerable literature has grown around the theme of the impact of knowledge search on the firms’ innovation quality. Nevertheless, only a few studies draw on the combination of global health emergency, cross-border knowledge search and the innovation quality; in particular, no literature has analyzed the relationship between the three from the managerial discretion perspective. Exploring the above relationships has great theoretical value for enriching and improving knowledge management and innovation management theories and provides a theoretical basis and practical support for high-tech firms to face challenges of a global health emergency and to break through the innovation dilemma.

Abstract

Corona has been used as a mask for the deepening crisis of the capitalist system. It deepened the damage of those who suffered the most from the system. It deepened the harm of precarious street workers even more, making living conditions difficult. Not enough resources were allocated to street workers, only pocket money and food packages. At the same time, the Corona crisis strengthened the streets, making the street more visible. Street workers prevented inflation by providing goods and food at low prices in poor neighbourhoods throughout the stay period. Many products with scarcity supplied by street workers. Millions of unemployed people became entrepreneurs in the form of new simple street jobs. Increasing number of street entrepreneurs attracted local governments. Local governments developed projects to regulate the sales by street vendors. Very small-scale street entrepreneurs also developed a sense of solidarity by establishing cooperatives among themselves. The surveys showed that the poor were in solidarity with street vendors. Even street vendors bought products directly from producers who could not sell their products, distributed for free in poor neighbourhoods or sold at half the price of markets. Street economy is the most important component of the social economy. It was once again understood that the streets are not a problem but, the system created the problem. Street economy is not a problem. It is a spontaneous solution to the problems and crises of capitalism.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the key factors that influence the behavioural intention of doctors to adopt the knowledge sharing driven blockchain technology in government hospitals. The study is based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2, with the addition of trust as an independent variable and knowledge sharing as a mediating variable between trust and behavioural intention.

Design/methodology/approach

The data for the study was collected through a correlation and cross-sectional study using a survey, with a sample of 322 responses being used for the final analysis. The initial analysis of the data was conducted using SPSS v.26, followed by a partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) analysis using SmartPLS v.3.9 to test the validity and reliability of the measures and to examine the hypothesized relationships.

Findings

The results supported the proposed framework. The results of PLS-SEM indicate that all proposed pathways support the model. In particular, the results of the study reveal that performance expectation, effort expectation, social influence, facilitation conditions and trust are drivers of blockchain adoption and have a significant impact on the behavioural intention of clinicians in hospitals. Furthermore, the study found that knowledge sharing mediated the relationship between trust and behavioural intention.

Practical implications

The present study sheds light on the challenges facing blockchain technology, such as privacy and trust concerns and proposes a more sustainable approach based on knowledge management to enhance the effectiveness of blockchain technology and overcome these challenges.

Originality/value

The significance of this paper lies in the limited literature examining the relationships between blockchain technology and knowledge management processes. Furthermore, a hypothetical framework that includes the knowledge sharing process as a mediating variable between trust and behavioural intention to adopt blockchain technology has not been presented or developed in any previous studies, particularly in the context of Iraq. Thus, this work is novel and unique in its approach.
